Time for Politics in Riverwoods. Again?

By The Riverwoods Caucus Advisory Council

YES! A little over a year ago, we elected a Mayor, a Clerk, and three members of the six-member Village Board of Trustees, but in about nine months it will be time to go to the polls and elect a Clerk and three Trustees to fill Board positions expiring in 2011.

The voter turn-out in the 2009 election was robust, but the process was not without some challenges. The impartial Caucus election process is not well-understood by many residents, and some people are not familiar with what our Board of Trustees does and how it may differ from other Boards in this area. If you are one of these, now is the perfect time to learn more!

The Trustees and the Clerk we elect next spring, together with the Mayor and the continuing Trustees, will guide our Village through the issues of the coming years. But first, the Caucus Advisory Council will have to find people to serve on a new Nominating Committee, and the members of the Nominating Committee will have to find and evaluate candidates interested in standing for election.

Finding citizens to make our system work is sometimes difficult. People think they don't know enough, or that they are too busy, or that someone else can do it.

Is democracy alive and well in Riverwoods? Only if YOU are willing to help with this process!

To learn more call the Riverwoods Village Hall at 847- 945-3990 between 8:30a.m.-1:30 p.m., and leave your contact information. Either Linda Dunn, Kris Ford, Larry Kanar, Jill Kaplan, Carol Lieberman, or Diane Rapaport from the Caucus Advisory Council will get back to you.

How to Live with Coyotes
One of the reasons many of us were attracted to Lake County is because of its natural resources. We enjoy hiking, looking out in the backyard at birds and other animals. However, at times, it seems nature is a little too close for comfort. While we are used to deer and try to make our gardens less appetizing for them, a recent development has been an increase in coyote population.

This power point, produced by the Forest Preserve has facts, as well as tips and phone numbers if you have a problem coyote.
